  Russia: JW leader (Alexander Kalistratov) on trial

  moscow (ap) the religious group jehovah's witness says their local leader is being persecuted in russia under a vague anti-extremism law.. the group said monday that alexander kalistratov is going on trial in the siberian town of gorno-altaisk for alleged "incitement of religious enmity and hatred.".

  the group's spokesman robert warren said the trial is part of a "larger problem" that jehovah's witnesses have been facing in russia and called the trial a "misapplication" of russia' 2002 anti-extremism law.. human rights advocates claim that law is used to crack down on dissidents and religious groups that russia's dominant orthodox church disapproves of.. in september 2009, a court in the southern city of rostov-on-don banned a regional branch of jehovah's witness and outlawed dozens of its publications.. google_ad_section_end(name=article) copyright 2010 the associated press.

  Mad (edited to say "and James Woods"), I have to disagree.

  Anti-extremist angle is what gets people's attention in Russia. It is a hot button along the lines of their Chechen problem. Let the few dubs cry persecution all day long, but for the public at large the extremist label would stick much better as a deterrent. Not to mention that the way it started (the JW anti-government brochure) is indeed an extremist approach.

  I am sorry but you can't call the current government a return of a Stalinist regime (in so many words) and expect to be dealt with through an educational campaign....

  Chrome (Google) = Safari (Apple) = Internet Explorer (Microsoft) = Firefox (Mozilla)

  I was also getting Safari crashed; Internet Explorer opened the page, although with some script errors...Since you are on Mac, you may want to install and have as a back up Firefox..

  What happens when you contact wbts HQ

  hi all,.

  what sort of responses do people actually get when you write to brooklyn hq to query subjects like their quote mining and other dubious uses of sources.

  i am currently having a bit of a 'discussion' on a popular nz mb with 3 or 4 current jw who are having a hard time accepting that the quotes from their latest pamphlets on evolution, among others are taken out of context, its got to the point where the only answer they are willing to give is to take it up with borg central.. if i actually physically mailed them a letter with a large portion of attached documents, would i get an actual response, photocopies of articles, or filed under wicked slave?.

  Here is a link to scans of actual correspondence between a concerned elder and NY Bethel. Follow the letters from 1998 to 2003 and see how the WT initially evades the questions, then simply blows the brother off, and eventually plays dumb to the point of the elder resigning over the issues. It is an enlightening and interesting read. All credit goes to the AJWRB site of course...

  after 45 years of using the bible, it is easy for me to say to jesus question "who will you go away to?

  Well, Clarity, it is a statue of Yan Bibiyan and his friend the little devil Fiut (Fiut is standing up). Yan Bibiyan is a fictional character of a children's novel, where he befriends the little devil Fiut and Fiut flies him to the Moon. It is worth noting that the little devil does not equal Satan the devil; it is an expression for a mischevious character.

  I may have listened in turn to the little mischevious devil sitting on my left shoulder and started researching the truth about "The Truth"....although my mischevious devil is yet to fly me to the Moon...

  Sorry if it was boring or not what you expected...

  Even the badly botched up NWT translation (below) is hard to interpret as: "You need the Watchtower and magazines to teach you"

  1 John 2:27 "And as for YOU, the anointing that YOU received from him remains in YOU, and YOU do not need anyone to be teaching YOU; but, as the anointing from him is teaching YOU about all things, and is true and is no lie, and just as it has taught YOU, remain in union with him. "

  Clarity, ask a JW to read this to you from THEIR Bible and then explain it. If they try to skirt around the "anointed" wording, ask if the Anointed can just read the Bible.

  JWs claim an unbroken lineage of "True Christians" from 33CE onward ending with them in modern times.

  Soooo, how did "True Christians" prior to Russell became such WITHOUT the aid of Watchtowers and junk and obviously with the Bible alone?
